Get The Look: Boho

Spring is around the corner! This week we are styling our Date Night Duo with an effortless look as we make our way out of frigid temperatures! We are all about wearable fashion, so if you like the Boho vibe, this is a great way to wear it without people mistaking you for a gypsy, hippie, or Woodstock enthusiast.

First of all, we are obsessed with Pink Quartz - its the perfect shade of pink... and this blush top fits the bill for the very same reason!  Pair it with this adorable and stylish matador hat and you are just effortless and fabulous. Isn't that the goal?

Get The Look: Moto-Rock

We're excited to start a new series of fashion blogs that are inspired by our three lines - Boho, Moto-Rock and Classic. We are always finding ourselves describing the style inspirations behind our designs, and thought incorporating fashion posts to our blog would help us translate this message online to our social media followers and internet shoppers. So... here we are! Get The Look is what we are calling this series of posts, and we are starting with styling each of the Duos and Trios we offer.

Our first featured Trio is the All Gold Everything Trio. We wanted to start with a Moto-Rock look because some people shy away from this style thinking they can't "pull it off." The truth is you really don't need to have tattoos and a nose piercing to pull of a Moto-Rock look.

We love black leather with gold hardware! If you want to tone down this look a bit, opt for a simple flat and skinnies. Click on the items below to find similar affordable items:

Lookbook 2016

Our 2016 look book is finally done!

This is really our main branding piece that we rely on to tell our story and explain our brand. We spend a lot of time on the content and design for that reason. So many of our customers we don't get a chance to meet, so the story we tell in the look book is really our opportunity to show people who we are, what Lovewell is, and the personality behind the brand.

Since we brand ourselves with Lovewell, we were focused on making sure this look book did a good job of portraying who we really are as people. At first we had a hard time figuring out how to show our true selves on paper. Then it dawned on us that the best way to show us it to use real content. That gave us the idea to give the 2016 look book a scrap-book feel by using real selfies, photo strips and polaroids (obviously, for the sake of pride, we threw in a few professional photos as well ;)

We are really proud of our 2nd official look book and hope you like it!

Accessorize

People always ask us how we came up with our three lines, Boho, Moto-Rock and Classic. The funny thing is, that was probably the easiest part of starting this company! We basically identified each other's style in about 30 seconds. Nat's was a little tricky because we had to fuse moto and rocker styles to create our own style called "Moto-Rock" (aren't we so creative??!). So ya, within about 5 minutes are lines were formed.

Accessorizing is a huge part of personal style. That's why we love jewelry! So today we decided to take off all the accessories we were wearing, and take side by side photos to show the authenticity of our three lines. Which line do you love?

New Collection - 2016

For our new release for January, we decided to not branch out too far from what we’ve been doing and just stick to an upgraded version of our beadbar necklace. As tempting as it is to create something totally new, we feel like we are still pretty new (we turned 1 in November!) and therefore still have a lot of people to introduce the "beadbar" to.

The original beadbar :)

The original beadbar :)

We’ve had a few retailers and customers inquire about what our beads are made of. We have some Swarovski items, but for the most part we choose our designs based on style, not material. Beads come in basically every material you can imagine, from glass to clay, acrylic, bone, wood, metal … the list goes on. This works out well for us, having to come up with designs across 3 style lines.

In an effort to organize our product line a little better, we decided to come out with a collection of Genuine Stones. We had a couple in our original line that we personally loved to wear, so we thought, why not expand on what we are gravitating towards. We decided to dress up the bars by adding a gold or silver ball to each end of the bar. We are so happy with the final result!

Here are a few shots of our new designs by line:

In normal Lovewell fashion, we designed these new pieces by personal style preference and what we thought complimented our individual lines, but the cool thing about Genuine Stones is that they  each have meaning behind them.

But for those of you interested in these stones' meanings, we did a little research for you. Enjoy!

Howlite (grey/white)- stone of awareness, wisdom, wonder stone for calming and relaxation

Onyx (black) -  Inner strength, focused attention, willpower, self-mastery, discipline, reason.

Amazonite (teal) - Stone of Hope, truth, honor, communication, integrity, and trust. To enhance intuition, psychic powers, creativity and intellect.

Amethyst (Purple) - meditative and calming stone, to provide calm, balance, patience, peace, prosperity stone.

Pink Quartz (light pink)- Love Stone, unconditional love, self-love, family love, platonic love, and romantic love, to raise self-esteem and sense of self-worth

Turquoise (Turquoise! duh.) - Protection, energy, wisdom, serenity, wholeness, self expression, creativity, peace of mind, emotional balance, good luck, spiritual grounding, honest communication, friendship, love and loyalty. Absorbs negativity.

Boho, Moto-Rock and Classic

If you know the first thing about Lovewell, you know our line is based on us three sisters and our individual styles- Boho, Moto-Rock and Classic. As we grow our line and get into more boutiques and gift shops, we want to make sure people we are reaching understand our brand and what they are buying.

In doing that, we put out a look book earlier this year that we give to our store locations to explain Lovewell to customers. To our surprise, our home-designed, grassroots, first-shot-in-the-dark look book has been very well received! Now we are thinking about our 2016 look book and how we can up the ante to have our brand adored by girls everywhere.

Lovewell is about style- particularly Boho, Moto-Rock and Classic. But what do we mean by these three stlyes, and how do we pick our styles based on these descriptions? We decided we need to give the customer a better visual of the essence of our three lines. Here are a few of our first round of shots.

Boho style includes natural stones, woods, and metals in textured finishes and colorful styles to give you that Bohemian-inspired eclectic yet rustic vibe.

Moto-Rock is a term we coined to combine Moto style with Rocker style. (We really needed both influences to have the true essence of Natalie's crazy style :) Moto-Rock style is hard, metallic, withh sharp tones and finishes and bad-ass designs like skulls, studs and spikes to give you the look of a rockstar... or a bike chic.... or both!

Classic is traditional feminine style that is timeless. Pearls and pearly finishes are Classic as well as more modern styles in classic colors girls love from navy blue to hot pink.

Lovewell is ALSO about a lifestyle- about loving what you do and doing it well. Giving what you love not only your attention, but your passion. If you live your life surrounded by and doing what you love, well... the outcome can only be good, right? We feel that including "lifestyle" photos in our next look book is important for that reason. Photos that show who we are and exude happiness, fun, fulfillment, beauty and LOVE! We hired our favorite photographer Lindsey Ocker to take some pictures of us being us to help sell our style and lifestyle.

Check out Lindsey's website at lindseyocker.com. This girl is SERIOUSLY talented and one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

Behind the Scenes

We launched Lovewell at the very end of November, which was a lot of pressure for us but ended up being super successful because we were able to be up and running for the holiday season and Christmas shopping. We have the best friends and family who made multiple purchases themselves and promoted us within their own networks. We fulfilled over 30 orders on our website in December, in addition to selling over 90 necklaces at our launch party. Woohoo!

Now that that whirlwind has slowed down a bit, we've been putting a lot of thought and effort into getting our line into retail locations. With the help of trusted family and friends (again!) we've been able to pinpoint price points, come up with a game plan, formulate a line sheet and develop a look book.

We hired our friend/cousin/personal photog Gabby to take some pics of us as co-founders to be in the look book. Easy, right? Hair, makeup, outfit, lights, camera, action.... smile!.... UGH. That one doesn't look good. Ok try again. Wait I wasn't looking. Ok again. Nat, your eyes are closed. Again. My stomach looks fat. Again. Too much cleavage. Again. Ang why are you looking at the ceiling. Again. Wait let's not smile. Again. Ok let's smize. Nope, again.  Renee tilt your head forward. Again. Again. Again. W-T-F!

Now you're just dying to see our outtakes... enjoy...

Despite the situation above, we were able to finalize our look book and (after a few glitches) recently had the final version printed. We are officially ready for retail!  Check out some pics below of the final product :)

Wish us luck as we embark on this adventure! And if anyone has any recommendations for boutiques or gift shops that might be a good fit for Lovewell, let us know!

DIY Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is always a confusing holiday. It’s all about flowers and romance…. chocolates and (hopefully) jewelry. But where does that leave your guy? Do you buy him a real gift like a watch or pair of boots? Or do you acknowledge that this is really YOUR holiday to be wined and dined, and just go with a card? It seems like the answer lies somewhere in the middle. But where?

We decided that this year, the middle was something simple but thoughtful… the ultimate gift being the effort that went into making it. Guys love homemade stuff. Even if it’s not that impressive, they are surprisingly sappy when you spend the time to hand make them something.

After some Googling and Pinning, we came up with the idea of a manly, homemade box of chocolates. It’s on theme and requires that DIY effort. We searched for 3 recipes for chocolates that we considered to be “manly”:

  1. Sea Salt and Almond Bark

  2. Pecan and Bourbon Truffles

  3. Classic Chocolate Fudge

Ok, disclaimer: We failed miserably on the fudge. So ultimately, we ended up with 2 chocolate delicacies but they really are delicious AND the recipes made a lot of each so it turned out fine. It’s always good to DIY with a friend to find the humor in your mistakes!!

We started with the bark which was a good idea because it was the easiest recipe.  All it involves is melting chocolate (double pan…. water in the bottom one, chocolate in the top one!), crushing and candy-coating almonds, and grinding a little sea salt.Lay it on a baking sheet, stick it in the fridge for 3 hours and break it apart. So good! We used 60% Ghirardelli Cocoa but if you aren't a dark chocolate person, we are sure it would be just as delicious with milk or semi-sweet chocolate.

Click here for the full recipe!

Next up was the Pecan Truffles. This time you are melting semi-sweet morsels directly in a pan with condensed milk. Not sure why you don’t have to double-pan this melting situation, but it didn’t burn so go with what the recipe says! Once the chocolate is creamy, you take it off the heat and add vanilla extract, chopped pecans, and whiskey. Let it cool in the fridge for 3 hours and when it’s congealable but not cold, roll the chocolate into 1 inch balls and coat again with chopped pecans. (The recipes says it makes 8 servings and that a serving size is 1 ball. It made WAY more than 8 so no need to double this recipes like we thought we had to.)

Click here for the full recipe!

Now on to packaging. We set out to find tin cans to put the candy in but they were super pink, girly, and juvenile looking, so we opted for pine boxes from Michael’s for $4.99. Manly, right? Here’s the link:

Pine Box

We lined the inside of the box with parchment paper to house our chocolates. Then we printed off and embellished these little “Handmade with Love” cards. (We love this font for anything homemade because its rustic but still uniform. It’s available on Google Drive and it’s called “Homemade Apple”)

Then we grabbed some cotton burlap ribbon and wired-twine to serve as a ribbon. And here is our final product! The whole thing cost about $25, but took a good 6 hours to complete. A 6 hour labor of love!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dress up your Valentine's Day

Let's face it, we all want to be romanced on Valentine's Day. And men are great and all, but is it just us or is getting ready for a date just as fun as the actual date itself? If you don't have a husband or steady sweetie, be adventurous and accept a date from that nice-but-sort-of-awkward guy at the office, or plan a night out with your single girlfriends. Everywhere is buzzing on Valentine's day and it's fun just to go out!

Back to the bread and butter of going out- getting ready. Since Valentine's Day is an actual holiday, it's perfectly acceptable (and therefore a great opportunity) to take your normal date or going out attire up a notch and put on a fun dress! (And no, not with leggings). Your being romanced... Look the part!

Chances are you aren't doing something upscale enough to pull off anything long (and if you are, we're jealous). But there are tons of adorable, short, sexy, fun dresses out there that are just begging to be worn! Here are our picks for perfect Valentine's Day date dresses:

Boho Dress- "Under Your Spell Dress" Free People $168. We love the sheer deep V combined with the high neck on this dress. Moto-Rock Dress- "Rock & Religion Emelie Mesh Panel Bodycon Dress" ASOS $46. A great winter take on the crop-top and high-skirt look! Classic Dress- "Karen Millen Knitted Skater Dress" ASOS $194. Short sleeve dresses can be so feminine. We love how this dress is short without any booty-hugging!

Wrap it up!

We love scarves. Thin scarves, bulky scarves, knitted scarves, plaid scarves, sheer scarves, cashmere scarves, pashmina scarves, infinity scarves... You name it, we own them. A lot of them. Oodles and oodles of scarves. And no, we don't have enough and never will, thank you very much.

Scarves are great as accessories because they add that extra something to your outfit, whether that something is a pop of color, a needed texture or pattern, or just some fashionable bulk (is that a thing??).

All hail Jessica Alba, our scarf-wearing idol.

But let's face it, when you're from the Northeast like we are, these little strips of fabric are also extremely functional in the never-ending effort to just STAY WARM. In fact they are essential.

As much as we love all of our scarves for their own unique purpose, we all have those one or two basic-go-with-anything-staple-scarves we leave front and center on the coat rack. Old faithfuls, if you will.

Enter the beauty of the neutral scarf. You know, the one you wear to casually meet a friend, or to run an errand, or go for a Starbucks run. You know the one...your thinking of it right now...you might even go put it on. Afterall, it IS cold in here. Isn't it?

The beauty of scarves is that the options are never ending, and the perfect neutral scarf doesn't have to be boring! Here are our picks for neutral-not-boring, everyday scarves that reflect our own personal styles perfectly... and therefore fit into our wardrobes seamlessly.

Anthropologie.com has tons our fun and funky boho scarves. we love this one for its versatility and unexpected touches of bright color. "Pick Stitch Loop" Scarf $78.00. This Moto-Rock option is from Forever21. That strip of gold is actually a gold chain running through the scarf. The combination of cream and gold makes super simple and versatile, but also edgy. "Edgy Chain-Trimmed Scarf" $19.80. Banana Republic is known for its Classic staples. This looks like a basic grey scarf, but up close it have great texture, and we love the classic tassels in white, giving it a subtle 2-tone feel. "Janey Scarf" $59.50.

'Tis the Season to... Do All Things With Love!

Aside from  being a jewelry company,  Lovewell is about doing well what you love. Or, doing all things with love. We found this exact saying framed (by chance) on a shopping trip shortly after starting our company, and  it was so perfect for what Lovewell exudes that we took it as a sign from the universe to continue on in pursuing this entire brand and concept. It was like this framed saying sitting alone on the shelf at Marshall’s was sent to us!

“Do all things with love” is about putting your heart, soul, energy and focus on what you are currently working on. It’s about putting your best foot forward, but also staying present in the moment and taking pride in what you are spending your time doing to maximize your potential, self-satisfaction and overall happiness!

#Doitwithlove is something we plan to implement and promote in the coming year through our brand in an effort to put positive energy into the world.

To kick that off, and to celebrate the holiday season, this blog post is devoted to how to #doitwithlove  with what else but…. holiday decorating! Life is so hectic, and we have so many daily commitments, that sometimes spending time doing extra things that are meant to be enjoyable, end up stressing us out. So this year we decided to take a deep breath, relax, and ENJOY decorating our homes for Christmas. From stringing lights, to decorating trees, to setting up nativity figurines and tiny ceramic villages, the job was tedious. But we set aside time to tackle it and found that just having a devoted chunk of time to commit to something allows you to enjoy it more. So basic, right? Having TIME allowed  us to actually enjoy our decorations, think about the origin of certain pieces- who gifted them to us, who we inherited them from, who hand-made them. It also allowed us the ability to put thought and care into where we put things, and get a little creative.

Enjoy taking a peek at the photos below to see the final product! We’d love to see your holiday decorating too by posting a pic to Instagram with #doitwithlove. Happy Holidays!!

Ready, Set, LAUNCH!

Our Lovewell Brand Launch Party this weekend was a huge success with many of our friends and family coming out to support our new endeavor.

Our mom was gracious enough to let us open her home for a Sunday morning brunch that included a variety of activities to gain brand feedback from our favorite clientele ☺…. As well as contest winners and friends and family coupons.

We spent weeks leading up to the party making plenty of inventory for the party and also designing the presentation of our necklaces on our handmade displays that we are oh-so-proud of. Check out the gallery below! (Click on the image to view the next)

For the wintery-white themed occasion, our staple white birch display fit perfectly.  Some of the birch accents are authentic logs from building our family vacation home on Lovewell Pond in Fryeburg, ME.

Chrstimas-y white sangria, white lights and background 70’s funk music were just the finishing touches we needed for our perfect Lovewell Launch Party.

We got lots of complements on the Sangria, so here are the magical ingredients!

Sauvignon Blanc
Pinot Grigio
White Grape Juice
Gingerale
Club Soda
Fresh Apple slices, Cranberries & Rosmary herb
We mixed wine and juice (3 equal parts) over night with the fruit and added sodas and rosemary before serving – YUM!!

We were truly shocked by how many necklaces our friends and family bought; for themselves, for others, for holiday gifts.  Our Instagram account @lovewell_ was going crazy with tags and hashtags for days afterwards.

One of our contests was to post an Instagram promoting our brand. The winner was our friend Kim, who put so much thought into this pic stitch below. So cute!!

Last but not least, we got some incredible feedback on our designs and website.  We are already incorporating these ideas and working on perfecting our product to gain more online sales and begin enter the retail world!  Stay tuned!
